Never having been a sports fan, I’ve always found it easy to ignore all things sports related. The Olympics isn’t one of them. For some reason, watching “amateur” contenders compete against each other is so much more exciting than professional football.
Whoa, don’t take my head off. I know those people train for years to become Olympian athletes, but it’s like the difference in watching serious wrestlers on a high school team and those guys on television who put on such a violent show.
Bringing, or taking home the gold— hope a lot of it is bringing home the gold to the U.S.A. not taking it back to other countries—must be the most thrilling accomplishment of a lifetime. These are people who do what they do for the glory not the money. Or am I wrong there? I said I don’t know much about sports, and I suppose there might be money down the road for these athletes, yet imagine doing what you do for the sheer thrill of it.
Sort of like being a writer much of the time, isn’t it?
Forgive my short post. Have a request from a publisher and so must get to work. Been writing for the glory for a while now, time to try for a few centavos to tide me over.
I was thinking the same thing — that Olympians are rather like writers.I like watching the Olympics. Somehow I’m not as excited about them this year as in the past. Maybe it’s because they’re in China or maybe it’s because of the pollution there and I worry about the athletes’ health. On the other hand, I may pick up in my enthusiasm once it starts.
I’m not much into sports at all so I don’t watch the Olympics, but my sister is actually going to Beijing to see them. I like your Olympians/writers analogy!
