Meeting a hot new writer

Meeting best selling authors is one of the big perks of being in this business. As a writer myself, I stand in awe of those who hit the best seller list, whether they do it with years of one book after another published, or slam to the top first time around.

Saturday I had the pleasure of meeting Jordan Dane. Though she’s an Oklahoma gal, I can’t recall having seen her prior to her recent rise to the top. Her first book, No One Heard Her Scream resulted in an auction for her first contract. Avon responded and issued the first book in April, the next, No One Left to Tell in May and the third, No One Lives Forever in June.

Jordan said she feels as if she’s been struck by lightning. We were privileged to have this talented author for two sessions at Ozark Writers League in Branson Saturday. Listening while she shared some of her secrets was enjoyable and I learned things I never thought of before. Could explain my coasting along for so many years without hitting the best seller list. Hmmm.

Jordan shares tips and resources on her website. Check them out.

About veldabrotherton

For thirty years I've been a writer. Publication of my work began in 1994 . I'm pleased to have recently settled with Oghma Creative Media as my publisher. My brand is SexyDarkGritty and that applies to my western historical romances, mysteries, women's fiction and horror novels. I recently signed a contract to write westerns again, and what fun it's been working on the first one. If I weren't writing my life wouldn't be so exciting.

  1. Thanks for the link. I’m also in awe of best-sellers of that magnitude. I can’t say I never experience pangs of envy, either. Hey, I’m still human – lol To have your manuscript “auctioned!” Wow, pray for that day. Kudos to one of us who “made it” – I’ll definitely read up on her tips. Always to wise to learn from successful people!

“Could explain my coasting along for so many years without hitting the best seller list.”What did she say that led you to this conclusion?

How fun for you! I love meeting other writers and am continually surprised at how nice every one is, including the ones who have made it further up the food chain. And yeah, I’m with Helen – I wanna know what led you to that conclusion…

  4. Just that she is so young and learned so many great things so early in her career. Like tell everyone where to go and do it her way. She also had some great tips I hadn’t thought of concerning promoting etc. I’ve always been the writer and to heck with the rest of it. That used to work okay, now it doesn’t work at all. She invented her own brand, made her own first movie trailer for Youtube. Eeeek.

I’m getting to know Jordan online and she seems like a great person. I’ll check out her website; I always open to new tricks. Especially if they lead to an auction.Lj
