FORMATTING FOR KINDLE PART 2

I promised to get back to readers about formatting your book for Kindle. The following takes up where we left off in my previous blog about formatting. Here’s how to set up a Title page, a disclaimer page, a Copyright page and a Dedication at the beginning of your book.

TITLE

COPYRIGHT

Copyright 2011 by Author’s name

Dedication  CTRL/ENTER

TO CENTER THE ABOVE,  HIGHLIGHT,  GO TO PAGE LAYOUT AND CHANGE FIRST LINE TO NONE, THEN GO BACK TO HOME PARAGRAPH AND HIGHLIGHT THE SECOND SQUARE NEXT TO THE ONE THAT IS HIGHLIGHTED FOR REST OF WORK. WHEN YOU DO THAT THE LINE AND THOSE YOU TYPE AFTER IT WILL CENTER. CHANGE IT BACK TO THE ONE ON THE LEFT FOR THE REMAINDER OF YOUR PAGES.

THE FOLLOWING DISCLAIMER IS WHAT I USE WITH HISTORICAL FICTION. IF YOU WRITE OTHER TYPES OF FICTION, BEGIN IT WITH “The names, characters, etc.”

This book is a work of fiction. With the exception of a few real characters taken from life, the names, characters, places and incidents are products of the writer’s imagination. Any resemblance to persons, living or dead, is coincidental.

This ebook is licensed for your personal enjoyment only. This ebook may not be resold or given away to other people. If you would like to share this book with another person, please purchase an additional copy for each person. Thank you for respecting the hard work of this author.

This also pertains to uploading to free download sites, which is considered piracy and does not recognize the labor of this author or her livelihood from that work. Please discourage piracy and purchase works, other than those listed by the author as Free Books.

All rights are reserved. No part of this book may be used or reproduced in any manner whatsoever without written permission from the author.

Then your First Chapter begins.

AT THE END OF YOUR BOOK YOU CAN CHOOSE WHAT YOU WANT THERE. MY FRIEND CALLS IT A KISS FROM THE AUTHOR, BUT SHE WRITES ROMANCES. YOU MAY TELL SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF, OR YOU MAY INCLUDE AUTHOR’S NOTES ABOUT WHY AND HOW YOU WROTE THE BOOK. IF YOU HAVE A NEXT BOOK COMING UP,  PUT IN A TEASER. JUST MAKE SURE YOU FORMAT IT JUST AS YOU DID THE BOOK AND DON’T FORGET A PAGE BREAK BETWEEN THE END OF YOUR BOOK AND THE “KISS.”

THEN, FOR THE FINAL FINAL ITEM, YOU WANT A HOTLINK TO YOUR WEBSITE.

HERE’S HOW YOU DO THAT TYPE: CONTACT ME AT http://www.yourwebsite.com

HIGHLIGHT THE LINK AND GO TO INSERT ON YOUR TOOL BAR. THERE YOU’LL SEE IN LINKS A BLUE BALL WITH HYPERLINK. CLICK ON THAT AFTER YOU’VE HIGHLIGHTED YOUR WEBSITE. WHEN YOU CHECK YOUR BOOK IN KINDLE FOR PC, MAKE SURE TO CLICK ON THAT LINK AND CHECK IT FOR ACCURACY.

I'm primarily a writer, but I also speak and teach workshops and co-chair a large critique group. My brand is SexyDarkGritty and that applies to my western historical romances, mysteries, women's fiction and horror novels. After almost 30 years in this business, I still have something to learn and attend conferences to network with other writers, publishers, editors and agents.

  1. Appreciating the time and energy you put into your website
and in depth information you provide. It’s nice to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same
    outdated rehashed information. Excellent read!
I’ve bookmarked your site and I’m adding your RSS feeds to my Google account.

    • Thanks so much for your appreciated comments. Soon I’ll be updating some of my earlier posts, but the Kindle ones still work perfectly. When and if something changes I’ll update those as well. Have a great weekend and enjoy your Kindle experience.
